In the sport of golf, momentum is everything.
A bad start to the tournament isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world as long as you finish your round off well and start swinging the club with consistency and accuracy.
For plenty of golfers, a good end to their first round will result in great second rounds. Let's take a look at who will take this route.
Michael Thompson (-4)
Thompson was almost allergic to pars at Olympic on Thursday. Luckily for him, all of his three bogeys came on the front nine.
On the back nine, Thomson really turned it on.
He birdied No. 11, 12, 14 and 18 to go from even to four-under, which currently has him in the lead all by himself.
If he continues his play from the back nine, Thompson is going to jump out to a huge lead on Friday.
Tiger Woods (-1)
Woods was a par machine on Thursday and pretty consistent throughout the whole round.
However, he did manage to knock down two of his three birdies on the front nine (he started on the back), and knocked down some impressive putts to end his day.
The momentum around the most talented golf player in the world has been building over the past week, and his close to the first round certainly didn't change things.
Look for his success to continue on Friday.
Nick Watney (-1)
Watney bogeyed holes No. 12, 13 and 16. But you know how to make up three quick bogeys? Sink a triple birdie, also known as the infamous double eagle, or albatross.
Watney absolutely saved his day with that shot, and as a result he sits just three shots off the lead. If he can use that amazing shot as momentum for Friday, Watney will be a major contender over the weekend.
