The No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-0) are officially on upset alert before the first release of the BCS rankings, heading out on the road to face the No. 22 Texas Longhorns (4-1) inside Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.
Las Vegas oddsmakers have established the Cowboys as solid eight-point road favorites, which is actually four points higher than last year's betting odds when they handed the Longhorns a 33-16 home loss.
Oklahoma State was almost handed its first loss of the season the last time it took to the road on Sept. 24, picking up a 30-29 come-from-behind win as 4.5-point road underdogs against Texas A&M. It was a game that saw them outscore the Aggies by a 27-9 margin in the final 30 minutes.
Texas is coming off a humiliating 55-17 defeat in the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma, but the defense allowed only four of the seven touchdowns.
The Longhorns have absolutely dominated this series historically, posting a 22-3 straight-up record, including wins in 12 of the last 13 meetings.
Head coach Mack Brown has always been great in refocusing his program after a tussle with the Sooners, winning all 13 games following the showdown in Dallas. Even more impressive is the Longhorns 11-1 against-the-spread record in that situation.
Texas has also tallied two revenge-minded wins this year over UCLA (49-20) and Iowa State (37-14), as both of those schools came into Saturday's venue and handed Brown's squad a loss in 2010.
Something tells me that the Cowboys better show up with a strong lasso, as the Longhorns are not going to go down without a fight.
