Husker Football : What Pelini and Martinez Should Be Focusing on

With each passing week, I see more and more articles, interviews, etc. focused on the Husker offense. The most publicized, of course, being Dirk Chatelain's article that sent Bo Pelini into acting like a father scolding a child at the post-game press conference after the Ohio State game.

At a time when the main focus of the media, and especially the head coach, should have been on the biggest comeback in school history, instead it was all about Taylor Martinez, the Husker offense and an article that stated one reporter's opinion.

Chatelain is entitled to his opinion and, frankly, Bo and Taylor both need to develop some thicker skin. Pelini needs to realize that part of being the head coach at a university like Nebraska is dealing with a scrutinizing media.

In Nebraska, Husker sports are all we have and football is king.  With no other major college or pro sports in the state, absolutely all the state's sports focus is on the Huskers.

Instead of focusing on the article at a live press conference, Bo would have better served Martinez to totally ignore it all together. Bo needs to lead by example and the example here should be to ignore all outside comments, distractions, etc. and focus on the field.

Bo always says these are just kids we are dealing with here, but Martinez is 21 years old. He knows as well as anyone that being the QB puts you in the spotlight. You get the blame when the team struggles and the glory when it succeeds.

So I'd like to handle this the way Pelni should have. I say to you, Taylor Martinez, just go out and play ball at the level that you did in the second half of the Ohio State game. I know you have it in you. Check your ego at the door, ignore all the critics and work your butt off to be the best player and person you can be. You could teach Mr. Pelini a lot.
