The New York Jets have never lost four straight games during the Rex Ryan era, and they desperately need their brash coach to make a proclamation heading into next week's Monday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins.
"I'm guaranteeing victory."
It's really that simple, as the franchise needs to recover its bravado that was so eagerly displayed on HBO's Hard Knocks series during the 2010 offseason.
Some would find it to be a cowardly tactic, as they host the 0-4 Dolphins at MetLife Stadium, but the Jets need something to rally around.
Ryan needs it even more.
Las Vegas oddsmakers opened the Jets as eight-point home favorites, and some sharp bettors have already bet against them, sending the betting line down half a point.
The game itself is fascinating from a betting perspective, as New York dropped all three games of its completed road trip in straight-up and against-the-spread fashion, including a 30-21 contest to the New England Patriots as 7.5-point underdogs Sunday.
Miami will be playing its third consecutive game outside of South Beach but will be doing so off a bye week.
It likely won't matter, as NFL underdogs playing a third consecutive road game are 0-6 against the spread the last three-plus seasons, failing to cover the betting odds by more than a touchdown (7.58 points a game).
Taking it a step further, the Dolphins have registered an 0-3 ATS mark in this exact situation since the 1991-92 campaign.
So come on, Rex. It's time to let the whole world know exactly what you're thinking.
Guarantee it.
