Dennis Allen to Raiders: Unknown Coach Perfect Hire for Silver and Black

The Oakland Raiders have their man and it is none other than former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, a perfect hire for a team in need of a fresh new direction.

ESPN's Adam Schefter cited league sources in reporting the next man to lead the Silver and Black would be the defensive guru that led the rival Broncos last season.

The report issues that the contract was hammered out Tuesday night and had been agreed to, but had not yet been signed. Here is to hoping that Allen puts pen to paper shortly.

There is not much know about Allen, a defensive coordinator who is getting his first crack at a professional helm. Allen brings to the Raiders a vitality that was lost when the team parted ways with Hue Jackson just a few weeks ago.

This is a team that has gone through seven head coaches since Jon Gruden left in 2001. That is far too much turnover to establish any sense of consistency and success.

With Allen, the Raiders are finally breaking the mold and dedicating the team to defense first, and that is why the same mistake that have taken place for decades will end now.

This will be the first defensive Raiders coach with a defensive background since John Madden. Before we jump for the Madden expectations, let's state that Allen will first have to establish what he brought to the Broncos in a versatile and hungry defense, and that will take some time.

Time is exactly what Allen will get as the new regime will try to distance themselves from the old way of throwing out the head coach at the first sing of trouble.

With Hue Jackson out, the Raiders front office has their man and their decision is the one on the line. That means this head coach will be the one to finally get some semblance of slack.

The Raiders may have had injury struggles on offense, but they were hit hardest by lackadaisical play on defense. This is a team that ranked 27th by land and by air in defense, and that just couldn't be allowed to continue.

Allen took the Broncos from a league-worst 29.4 points and 390.8 yards per game to ranking 20th in yards and 24th in points. The real joy was the pass rush, which they nearly doubled their sack total.

It's time for the Raiders to get mean up front, and Allen is the man to bring that tenacity back to the Black Hole.

With time and patience, Allen can finally bring back pride and success back to the Raiders.
