Patriots-Broncos Trade: New England Trades Up to Draft Dont'a Hightower

The New England Patriots traded up not once, but twice in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Pats first traded up (see ESPN.com) to take Chandler Jones with the No. 21 overall pick. After that pick was in the books, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Pats had traded up again:

Patriots trade up to Denver's spot, take Alabama LB Dont'a Hightower. Denver gets Pats first, and 126 overall.

Hightower had a productive career at Alabama, racking up tons of tackles and helping the Crimson Tide win two BCS National Championships. He and Jones represent front-seven upgrades the Patriots sorely needed.

The Broncos acquired the No. 31 pick in the deal.
