The format of the selection committee was a hot topic on Wednesday.
LSU head coach Les Miles made the rounds at the Wynfrey Hotel on Wednesday afternoon and shared his thoughts on how that committee should be filled.
"I trust that a committee with great scrutiny applied will get it right," Miles said. "The interest that the country has shown is necessary."
Miles is right.
The selection committee—however it is comprised—should be as transparent as possible.
Ray Glier of USA Today reported Wednesday that retired coaches are not candidates to be included on the selection committee for the four-team playoff starting in 2014:
Retired coaches are out as members of the selection committee for college football playoff. Each conference will submit a nominee.

Miles also supported the idea of the top four teams being invited to the playoff regardless of conference affiliation.
"If you know that a non-conference champion is one of the best teams in the country," Miles said, "then that team better be in."
If anyone has an objection for the top four teams getting in, it's Miles. His Tigers lost to Alabama 21-0 in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game, a team that LSU beat out for the SEC West title.
Kudos for Miles to standing up for what's right. A four-team playoff should include the best teams, regardless of conference affiliation. Otherwise, the prestige of the title becomes diminished.
