Ahmad Bradshaw: Complete Fantasy Profile and Draft Strategy

Ahmad Bradshaw is a key cog in the defending champion's offense, but if you look at the New York Giants roster just six months after they won the Super Bowl, the roles could be very different come game time.

Right now, the emergence of Victor Cruz, the brilliance of rookie David Wilson in the preseason and Bradshaw's unfortunate penchant to get injured all make him no better than a RB2 in most leagues right now.

Draft Strategy

Bradshaw is currently averaging the 46.6 position in ESPN fantasy football drafts, which would put him in the fifth round in a 10-team league. Anything earlier has to be considered a reach, specifically because he has potential touchdown grabbers in third-down backs D.J. Ware and Wilson.

It's hard to believe he didn't reach 1,000 yards from scrimmage last season, especially considering how important he was to the Giants' success.

But with pressure from Wilson pushing for time and Eli Manning still having Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and a slew of other new receivers to break in, will Bradshaw be a true option as an RB2?

If he's taken in the fifth round or later in a 10-12-team league, that would seem to be a pretty good play. He's a good, not great, option as an RB2 and a solid flex play.

Injury Assessment/Latest News

Bradshaw has a hand contusion that was suffered during the preseason, but it doesn't seem to affect his status as the Week 1 starter against the Dallas Cowboys on September 5.

Season Projection

Most season projections have Bradshaw finishing with about 1,300 yards of total offense and 10 touchdowns. There is some obvious risk of loss of touchdowns with Wilson as a big-play threat and Ware as a third-down/goal-line option, but Bradshaw figures to get about 50-60 percent of the carries.

Bye Week Info

The Giants are on bye week during Week 11, when your team should be clicking about three weeks before postseason play is scheduled to begin. Bradshaw was dealing with injuries during midseason last year about this time, so it wouldn't be surprising if you needed another option come this time anyway.

Player Comparison

In the RB2 spectrum, Trent Richardson, Fred Jackson and and BenJarvus Green-Ellis are all better options than the Giants starter. Each have a better shot of being "the man" in their prospective offenses and could end up being closer to RB1's if they can stay healthy.

By the same token, take Bradshaw before guys like Stevan Ridley, Roy Helu and Reggie Bush. Bradshaw does have the advantage of an experienced QB, several years in the offense and the inexperience of his backup. Those three all have less upside to score points than Bradshaw.

Conclusion

Bradshaw is more risk than he's worth in an early round. He has the talent and ability to be an above-average RB2, but the factors of David Wilson and his injury concerns make for an interesting situation in the Giants backfield.
