Why Terrance Ganaway Could Prove to Be a Solid Pickup for the St. Louis Rams

After an offseason full of rebuilding, the St. Louis Rams have picked up another piece in running back Terrance Ganaway according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Quite a few of the Rams' offseason moves have involved refuse from the New York Jets—enough so that it is clearly not a coincidence.

It began with the Rams signing former Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their new offensive guru. As a heavily maligned coach in New York, fans are likely to make fun of that pickup as the year goes on.

However, it would be hard to argue that decision being worse than the one to sign Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator. Obviously the indefinite ban has gotten in the way of that pickup.

Since acquiring Schottenheimer, the Rams have gone after several players in the Jets' dumpster. The most notable is defensive end Vernon Gholston—formerly the No. 6 overall pick by the Jets. Gholston is considered by some to be one of the biggest draft busts in Jets history.

The Rams made further news when they traded former No. 2 overall pick Jason Smith for right tackle Wayne Hunter of the Jets. Hunter has been, by a wide margin, the most criticized Jets player of the 2012 offseason.

Time will tell whether or not he can bring value to the Rams.

Lastly, the Rams made news Saturday when they signed Ganaway after the Jets cut him.

As the Jets sixth-round pick this year and as the only player to score a touchdown for the Jets in the preseason, it is likely that they would have re-signed Ganaway to their practice squad. However, the Rams jumped on the opportunity to have him for their active roster.

The rookie Ganaway lost the competition in Jets camp to running backs Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell, Joe McKnight and John Conner. The Jets had five backs and only four roster spots.

The No. 202 overall draft pick clearly has some talent, and we will find out what he can bring to the Rams this season, as he will be backing up Rams star running back Steven Jackson.
