Tiger Woods: Round 2 at Farmers Insurance Open Another Strong Showing for Tiger
Tiger Woods had a pretty good showing in his 2011 debut on Thursday. He wrapped up the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines with a 3-under 69, and finished the day five strokes behind the leader.
Round Two ended up being much of the same, as Tiger once again shot a 3-under 69 to drop his overall score to -6. Once again, he is five strokes behind the leader, and is tied for 12th place.
Tiger looked very good on the front nine, at one point birdying four straight holes to head into the back nine at -4.
However, Tiger slipped a little bit on the back nine, bogeying three of the first six holes to up his score to -1. It took birdies on 16 and 18 to save face.
Ultimately, there's not much to complain about regarding Tiger's play. It looks like he's still not quite there yet, but he is nonetheless building on his strong finish to 2010, where he was defeated in a playoff at the Chevron World Challenge.
On balance, until the Masters roll around on April, this is all just practice. That being said, considering the fact that Tiger went winless in 2010 for the first time in his storied career, one suspects that he would like to get off the hook before April.
