MMA Submission of the Day: Dan Henderson Gets Submission Win Early in Career

Former Pride Fighting Champion Dan Henderson only has two submission victories on his record, and they both came in the first five fights of his career.

In a 1999 bout versus Bakouri Gogitidze, Henderson was looking to advance to the 2nd round of the King of Kings tournament with a win.

Even though no submission was applied, Henderson got his opponent to tap out after he delivered a knee to the ribcage two minutes into Round 1.

Henderson would go on to fight four more times in the tournament before winning the Tournament Final match versus Renato "Babalu" Sobral. He also picked up victories over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Gilbert Yvel in the tournament to extend his career record to 9-0.

He would go on to fight for the Pride welterweight and middleweight championship in 2005 and 2007, defeating Murilo Bustamante and Wanderlei Silva to become the only man to hold two titles at once.

His extensive career would carry him into the UFC and Strikeforce where he currently resides as the Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion. His record stands at 28-8.

Henderson's next opponent will be MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko. The fight will take place this Saturday on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET.

Emelianenko is currently on a two-fight losing streak while Henderson has won his last two bouts.
