Denver Broncos Should Trade Fourth-Best QB Tim Tebow While He Still Has Value

Someone in the Denver Broncos organization clearly has it out for second-year quarterback Tim Tebow, and he had no problem voicing that opinion to Yahoo! Sports' Mike Silver today. As this drama rages on over the Broncos' first-round pick from a year ago, it might be time to seriously starting thinking about dealing Tebow if you're Denver.

Here's what a high-ranking source in the Broncos organization told Silver

“If everything was totally equal, and this were a competition based only on performance at this camp, Tebow would probably be the fourth-string guy. Kyle [Orton] is far and away the best, and Tebow’s way behind [Brady] Quinn, too. And I’m telling you, Adam Weber is flat-out better right now.”

That's not just throwing someone under the bus. That's throwing them under and running them over, then reversing the bus back over them.

The source's opinion might not be the consensus in Broncos' camp, but Tebow was bumped to third-string quarterback over the weekend. He saw limited playing time against the Buffalo Bills last Saturday.

Silver also said that the Broncos were willing to trade Kyle Orton, who is solidified as the team's starting quarterback now, for a third-round pick in July. But those days are long gone. If there's going to be a traded quarterback, it might as well be Tebow now.

The Broncos aren't going to get a first-round pick in return for Tebow, so any deal they make is going to bring them a net-loss. It's not even certain they'd get anything near the third-rounder they wanted for Orton.

But obviously, the confidence level in Tebow in Denver is dwindling. If the source rings true for the rest of the franchise, there is zero confidence left. This Broncos' regime also has no allegiance to Tebow, as former head coach Josh McDaniels was the driving force in drafting Tebow two Aprils ago.

So why not trade Tebow? He's not helping your team this season, and the longer he rots on the Broncos' bench, the further his value drops. If you can get a mid-round pick for him right now, don't you have to pull the trigger? Especially if this source speaks for the entire Broncos' front office?

It's a lose-lose situation for the Broncos and Tebow. The new regime is stuck with Tebow, a first-round pick who has engendered himself to plenty of Broncos fans. But Tebow is also stuck with being a high draft choice, something many believed he didn't deserve in the first place. It's not his fault McDaniels reached on him, but he's stuck with that label now.

The best case scenario for both parties might just be to deal Tebow for a pick. Send him some place where the pressure on him is lessened and he doesn't have to deal with this kind of bashing.

That way, the ridiculous throw-you-under-the-bus type leaks won't need to happen any longer for the Broncos or Tebow.
