After manhandling the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots improved to 7-3, two full games over the second place New York Jets in the NFC East.
The Patriots' remaining schedule almost ensures them of making the playoffs this season, barring any serious injuries to key players. The combined record of their remaining opponents is a dismal 24-40.
Assuming the Patriots make the playoffs, will they enjoy success this year, unlike the past few seasons?
Going back to the 2008 Super Bowl, the Patriots have dropped three straight postseason games, including consecutive divisional playoff losses at home the last two seasons.
Their high-octane passing offense is clicking on all cylinders this year, led by quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski, who have hooked up for ten touchdowns in ten games this season.
The Patriots defense has struggled this year, coming into Week 11 ranked dead last in yards allowed. The defense did step it up on Monday night, intercepting three passes and recording three sacks. They only allowed a first quarter field goal to the Chiefs Monday night.
With the stout defenses of the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers looming come playoff time, the Patriots will need to find another dimension to their team besides offense, if they want to win their first playoff game since the 2007 season.
