USC vs. UCLA: Trojans Are 16-Point Favorites Against the Bruins This Weekend

Thanks to NCAA sanctions, this will be USC’s last game this season. UCLA has a chance to beat USC and represent the South Division in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game next week.

First, though, UCLA must break a recent losing streak against its rival, when they visit USC on Saturday. A UCLA win punches the ticket to the Pac-12 title game and a shot at the league's automatic BCS bid. A loss opens the door for either Utah or Arizona State (Utah hosts Colorado; ASU hosts Cal).

USC has won the last the last four meetings overall, and has taken the last six at home against its crosstown rival. The last UCLA win at the Coliseum came in 1997.

In this year’s game of UCLA vs. USC, the college football odds show the Trojans favored by 16 points, while the over/under has been set for 58.5 points.

UCLA

The Bruins are in this position thanks to winning three of its last four games, including a 45-6 home win over Colorado last week. UCLA, however, is 1-4 on the road this year, with two losses to teams currently ranked in the BCS top 10.

The Bruins currently rank 76th nationally in scoring (25 points per game), while compiling 394 yards per game (200 rushing, 194 passing). Johnathan Franklin and Derrick Coleman anchor the running game for this offense, combining for 1,416 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.7 yards per carry.

On defense, UCLA ranks just 81st nationally in points allowed (29 ppg) and gives up 397 yards per game (216 passing, 181 rushing) while recording 12 sacks and forcing 18 turnovers.

Datone Jones has three sacks and 30 tackles, Andrew Abbott has four interceptions with 32 tackles and Sheldon Price has two forced fumbles to go with 31 tackles and one pick.

USC

Though the Trojans aren’t eligible for the BCS, they have risen to No. 10 in the AP poll thanks to last week’s stunning 38-35 win at Oregon, which gave the Trojans a current three-game win streak. USC is 5-1 at home, with the lone loss being the triple-overtime thriller versus Stanford.

USC currently ranks 22nd nationally in scoring (34 ppg), while recording 446 yards per game (282 passing, 164 rushing). Matt Barkley leads this offense by completing 68 percent of his passes for 3,105 yards and 33 TDs with seven interceptions. The offensive line has allowed just seven sacks.
