The Portland Trail Blazers have now officially started a major rebuilding process, and there could be more changes in the fold.
A team that now has no official general manager and head coach will spend the remainder of the season looking to fill their administrative openings in hope of starting another era.
The Trail Blazers started the season without an official general manager (rather having assistant Chad Buchanan, the director of college scouting covering both roles). The Trail Blazers fired Rich Cho after only 10 months on the job.
After starting the 2011-12 NBA season at a blazing start, things have really taken a turn for the worst, as the Trail Blazers have a record of 2-6 so far during the month of March.
The Trail Blazers were quite busy today making moves and looked hard at moving both Raymond Felton and Jamal Crawford but were unable to find any taker as the clock ticked down. The chances of bringing both Crawford and Felton back seem highly doubtful at this time since both players would rather be in a better situation.
Furthermore, after trading away both Gerald Wallace and Marcus Camby for expiring contracts, future draft picks and young players along with firing head coach Nate McMillan, the Trail Blazers are looking to undergo a complete rebirth heading into the summer of 2012 and the 2012-13 NBA season.
The Trail Blazers appear set on rebuilding their team around LaMarcus Aldridge and forward Nicolas Batum going forward, although that could be risky. With Batum becoming a free agent at the end of the season, the Blazers may lose him, as they were not able to agree to a contract extension earlier in the season.
However, it remains to be seen how the Trail Blazers attract free agents to play in Portland, but it appears to be the option that has been chosen.
