Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is on the road to recovery from his second bout with diverticulitis; however, few details are known about how far along in the recovery process he is since, according to UFC president Dana White, Lesnar "has completely disconnected himself from the world."
News of Lesnar’s second bout with the intestinal condition broke a month before he was scheduled to face Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 131. Lesnar spoke about the illness in a conference call where it was announced that he would be forced to withdraw from the dos Santos bout.
“I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis, at that time not knowing what the problem was," Lesnar said. "Diverticulitis is an illness that never goes away.”
Lesnar said he was forced out UFC 131 because "it didn't allow me to train to my full capabilities. What it does is it drains my entire body down. Basically, you've got an infection in your stomach and all my resources went to fight this problem instead of rebuilding what I tore down in the gym."
In late May, during the pay-per-view broadcast of UFC 130, White revealed that Lesnar had undergone surgery.
"Brock Lesnar had surgery yesterday," he said. "They removed about 12 inches of his colon, and they repaired it. He says he feels great. He's a little sore, but the operation was a huge success.”
Since that time, little has been heard from or about Lesnar—that all changed earlier today.
During a media call to discuss UFC 133, White offered the following:
“I talked to his (Lesnar’s) manager and he is not talking to anybody. You want to know how fast this guy is recovering? He’s up on his farm in Canada and he’s basically up there farming and has completely disconnected himself from the world, no phones, no nothing. He’s not talking to anybody and I guess his recovery has been incredible.”
White did not offer any further details on if or when Lesnar is expected back in the Octagon.
