Christian Lopez: Miller High Life Should Receive High Five After Picking Up Tax

When Christian Lopez caught Derek Jeter?s 3,000th hit, he could?ve demanded a million dollars, maybe even more for how much Jeter is loaded.  But no, he gave the ball to Jeter as a gift.  And this is a guy that had debts coming out of his ears.

Jeter responded to Lopez?s gratitude by rewarding him with memorabilia and Yankees tickets.  It was a nice move by the New York captain, but it ended up hurting Lopez as the IRA will tax him for the gifts.  Just as Lopez helped out Jeter, someone came to Lopez?s rescue: Miller High Life.

The beer company agreed to pay any taxes the IRS would force him to pay as the brand manager issued a statement via ESPN saying:

"Miller High Life believes you should be rewarded for doing the right thing, not penalized.  We want to recognize Christian Lopez, and in turn everyone like him, for doing the common sense thing and help him continue to live the High Life."

Miller High Life has been joined by Modell?s, a sporting goods store who will give five percent of its Yankee merchandise sales from July 13th to the 19th to help pay Lopez?s taxes and his 100,000 dollar college debt.

Each company, especially Miller High Life deserves a high five for coming to Christian Lopez?s aid.  The man gets lucky enough to catch Jeter?s 3,000th hit, but his kindness ended up making the grab unlucky.  Jeter and the Yankees could?ve and should've done more themselves to help out Lopez, but it?s great to see others who don?t owe him a single penny help him out purely out of compassion.

Congratulations to Mr. Lopez and big props to Miller High Life and Modell's.
