When the polls come out every year, there are certain perennial powerhouses that have lost too much or haven?t recruited well enough to continue the streak of success.
For many fan bases, it?s too hard to fathom, but there are many teams that are always great that will struggle mightily this year.
Whether it?s off the field issues or a schedule that is too tough to tame, these top teams will be outside looking in by the year?s end.
Oregon- The Oregon Ducks came within one game of reaching their destiny last season, but they will not be as successful this time around.
Even with the return of both running back LaMichael James and quarterback Darron Thomas, the offense that was so dangerous last year will still have a hard time matching last year?s success.
The key losses were on the defensive side of the ball like linebacker Casey Matthews and five others, and that will mean the offense needs to be better than the ridiculous numbers they put up last season. That?s going to be very tough.
Florida State- After one of the best recruiting classes in years, Florida State will be a top contender for years to come, but not this season.
With the departure of quarterback Christian Ponder to the Minnesota Vikings, the young Florida State team will be without a field general with experience.
Even with a schedule that won?t be the toughest to tame besides the Oklahoma game, the front seven will be the Achilles heel of their season.
LSU- Being in the SEC ensures a tough schedule, but for LSU, the schedule is abnormally tough.
With an opening game against BCS runner up Oregon, followed by games against Florida, Auburn and Alabama, the odds are stacked against the Tigers.
While they may be starting the season at the top of the AP?s Top 25, their stay there will not be long lived.
