College Football Preseason Rankings 2011: Why Stanford's Ranking Is a Fluke

Stanford is a great team, but they don?t deserve to be at No. 7 on the 2011 College football AP rankings.

That ranking is based on the team?s performance last year, and no amount of Andrew Luck will make up for the loss of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh took the head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers, and left the Cardinals with little help besides Luck.

Andrew Luck is the best quarterback in college football right now, and his ability to make his offense potent against every defense will make them a solid team.

The problem is that lack of elite talent on the defensive side of the ball will come back to bite Stanford in the long run, and the Cardinals won?t be in the top 25 at the conclusion of the season.

With seven departures on defense, the upheaval on defense coinciding with the arrival of a new coach has made the transition a lot tougher than most people thought there would be.

Andrew Luck should get a check from Stanford for making teams and the AP respect his Cardinals, but you can?t pay students cash so make sure it?s in the currency of yachts and bounties.
