NFL Rumors: Delusional Rex Ryan Says Mason Is Good for '90-100' Catches

Rex Ryan doesn't know when to shut up.

This is nothing new to us, but today he went overboard in predicting something that is as likely to come true as him ever legitimately losing weight.

The brash and obnoxious coach has been wrong in each of the last two seasons when predicting Gang Green would win the Super Bowl, but this year he decided to make a prop bet on his own player in addition to another Super Bowl win.

Newly acquired Derrick Mason, a 37-year old veteran, is the newest "senior citizen" player to get a chance at a ring with the Jets.

Now, Mason is still playing good football (he caught 61 balls and seven touchdowns last year), but his production has dropped in each of the last three years and father time is working against him as much as an extra batch of burritos is against Rex Ryan's diet.

Ryan, according to Pro Football Talk, told ESPN's Suzy Kolber that he expects Mason to catch 90 to 100 balls. And he also said, "Adding Derrick Mason is huge. I don?t know if people realize how big that is."

Sure, the addition of Mason is solid in the respect that he's a capable, proven veteran that Mark Sanchez can rely as a No. 3 receiver, but unless the Jets are running a new offense this season (which isn't happening) then Mason will be nowhere close to 90-100 catches.

Holmes, Braylon Edwards, LaDainian Tomlinson and Dustin Keller each caught over 50 balls last season and Jerricho Cotchery added 42 of his own.

Holmes, Tomlinson and Keller are the only returning players from this group, but the Jets also signed Plaxico Burress in addition to Mason. Add in touches for Shonne Green and there is not a single player on this offense coming close to 90 catches while they are still a run-first attack.

Rex Ryan loves to hear himself talk, but this is madness even for his crazy mind. Derrick Mason will be a fine No. 3 receiver for Sanchez, but dismiss his delusional coach's over/under prediction of production this season.
