Seahawks vs. Chargers Keys to the Game: Seahawks Offensive Line

One of the big uncertainties for the Seahawks in 2011 is what can be expected from their offensive line.

Their opening game has created more questions than answers.

Their rookies looked solid at times, opening a few holes in the run game.  They also looked like, well, rookies.  James Carpenter missed blocking assignments and was simply beat a few times in pass protection, exposing his quarterback.

Carpenter was the blocker the Seahawks coveted in the draft, citing his ability to be a road grader in the ground game.  The criticism with Carpenter was his work in pass protection; he did little to ease those concerns vs. the Chargers.

It is still early, though, and Carpenter is learning a new position.  Expect Tom Cable to work his new big man in the coming weeks.

The primary concern is obvious...Russell Okung's status.  He missed six games during the 2010 season after suffering high ankle sprains in both ankles.  Most thought this was an anomaly, as he didn't have health concerns in college.

While Tyler Polumbus is a solid roster option for depth, he isn't what Seattle needs at the left tackle position.  If Okung is expected to miss significant time Seattle may be scrambling to find options.
