The recent riots in London have taken the world by storm, and now it will seem it will also have an impact on the English Premier League as the Tottenham vs Everton game has been postponed officially.
The game is the first of a number of possible cancellations to take place this week. It is no secret that the safety of the players has been put first, and with the riots occurring so close to White Hart Lane it is no wonder officials took the steps they did.
The Tottenham Hotspurs website had this to say: "Following ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this weekend's Premier League home match against Everton, it has now been confirmed that this fixture will be postponed due to safety concerns relating to infrastructure of the High Road and access to the stadium caused by last Saturday's riots."
The site went on to say:
We apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters due to matters outside of the control of the Club. We shall update fans on when this fixture will be rearranged in due course.
This postponement will prove to be a disappointment for English Premier League fans around the world, who have anticipated the start of the 2011/2012 installment of the competition for a few months now.
No word has been given on the other fixtures in the EPL. As things stand they will go ahead.
