Alabama Football: Tide Will Need Better Quarterback Play at Penn State

While the scoreboard read 48-7, the offense of the Crimson Tide didn?t look at all the part of a national championship contender.

Their supposed Heisman candidate at running back only averaged 2.8 yards per carry against Kent State and their quarterback situation wasn?t too much better.

A.J. McCarron had the better day going 14 of 23 for 226 yards and a touchdown but he also threw two interceptions.

Phillip Sims went seven for 14 with 72 yards and an interception.

Kent State basically dared Alabama to throw the football and it worked in terms of the turnovers they created.

Penn State has a much better defense than the Flashes and the crowd will also be against Alabama. Strongly.

Expect McCarron to get the nod as the starting quarterback next week but unless Trent Richardson can put together a better game, the upset could happen in College Park this weekend.

After watching the tape on this game, the Lions will stack the box and put all the pressure on the quarterback to make the throw.

And if last week was any clue, that could be the formula for an upset.
