New uniforms littered the college landscape in week one of the 2011 season, some well received and some not so much. Most teams have reverted back to traditional garb for their week two match-ups, but there are some standout uniforms being worn this weekend.
Oregon is actually going with an uncharacteristically understated uniform this week. After last week’s all black Nike Pro-Combat uniforms, the Ducks are wearing plain gray pants and yellow jerseys with the trademark feathers. However, the grey carbon-fiber helmets stand out as a cool touch.
Before the season, Maryland debuted a number of new uniforms ranging from outrageously colorful to one very sleek all-black look. Last week, the Terrapins played in the new “Maryland Pride” uniforms by Under Armour. Not well received by fans, the student body appreciated the salute not only to the University’s colors but the Maryland state flag as well.
Maryland head coach Randy Edsall has stated the team captains will choose which uniforms the Terrapins will wear. With Maryland on a bye, we’ll have to wait until next week to see what comes out of the tunnel in College Park.
Finally, perhaps in honor of the first night game in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Notre Dame will feature throwback uniforms for tonight’s contest. Adidas has put together some very nice uniforms for each team. The throwback uniforms each honor the rich legacy of both programs in their own ways.
