Cowboys vs. Jets: Will Tony Romo Keep Up Hot Start in Week 1?

The Dallas Cowboys' problem has never been their offense.

In the Cowboys' first drive on Sunday night against the New York Jets, quarterback Tony Romo proved the Cowboys were going to be the same explosive offensive team as they have always been.

Romo, who started in only four games last season due to injury, showed no ill effects in the first drive of the game on Sunday, leading the Cowboys on a nine-play, 69-yard drive that ended in a 3-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant over cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

No matter that the Cowboys were playing New York, or playing against one the league's best defenses, Romo made sure they would start off the 2011 campaign with a bang.

But will it continue?

I see no reason it won't.

Before his shortened season in 2010, Romo threw for over 4,400 yards and 26 touchdowns to just nine interceptions. In the regular season, he's one of the NFL's most dangerous quarterbacks. He has all the weapons at his disposal - Bryant, Miles Austin, tight end Jason Witten - and it's likely we'll see a lot of shootouts this season whenever the Cowboys are around.

The Cowboys' offense has never disappointed, an offense that averaged 24.6 points per game without Romo for 12 games last season. The difference for them, of course, is if their defense can stay on par.

So far, the Cowboys have shut out the Jets in the first quarter, a good start to a season that will rely heavily on the defense's improvement under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

Romo should have another solid season.

The question is, will the defense follow suit?
