Fantasy Football Sleepers: 5 Tight Ends You Must Avoid

Tight ends are tricky when it comes to the success of your fantasy football team.

Like a quarterback, you only have one slot for a starting tight end every weekend, and who you choose to fill that slot can go a long way in determining whether you are crowned league champion.

Here are five tight end's who you should steer clear of when drafting your team.

Greg Olsen: Olsen is a solid tight end, but he was under utilized in Chicago and will now have either Cam Newton or Jimmy Clausen throwing him the ball in Carolina, so can his numbers really improve? Olsen only caught 41 balls in 2010 and managed just 404 yards and five touchdowns. Although he make big plays on the field, they happen rarely and don't translate to the fantasy game.

Tony Gonzalez: Gonzalez is aging and no one expects to see much production from him in 2011, all the more reason to include him on this list. Unless you like the Falcons offense to become historically-great this season than do the smart thing and avoid Gonzalez altogether.

Dustin Keller: The New York Jets tight end has everything teams look for in a great blocker and receiver, but unfortunately for fantasy owners, he brings little to nothing in terms of fantasy production. Keller caught just five touchdowns in 2010 and managed only 55 receptions while being targeted 101 times.

Owen Daniels: The Texans tight end was hyped going into 2010 and flopped significantly. Daniels is expected to bounce back in 2011 but I don't buy it. Whether his lost season a year ago was due to injury or not, I wouldn't take my chances on Daniels to get me even 10 points a week as a starter.

Dallas Clark: Clark is very high on fantasy tight end boards these days, and for good reason, he is one of Peyton Manning's favorite targets and an excellent pass-catching receiver, but how will he fare in 2011? With a different kind of Manning (one that we've never seen before) and a lesser offensive unit around him, can Clark still be dominant. Even if he can be this season, it's too great a risk.
