Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 1: 3 PPR Studs to Start in Week 1

The PPR league adds another layer onto roster decisions. You are still trying to start the best player with the best matchup, but that's not as easy to find in a PPR league.

You can't just consider stats and matchups. You have to think about the factors that make a good PPR receiver. With that difficult decision in mind, the following are three PPR receivers you'll want to have starting in Week 1.

Danny Amendola, St. Louis Rams

For the most part, Rams players are horrible fantasy plays in Week 1. They take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who promise to have one of the tougher defenses in the entire league.

Quarterback Sam Bradford will struggle to complete anything down the field and top receiver Mike Sims-Walker will be trying to shake off cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Passes underneath, however, should be more open.

That's where Amendola comes in. As a slot receiver, Amendola will find himself matched up with a weaker defender anyway, and he will be able to pile up receptions as Bradford looks for safety-valve throws.

Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins

Playing the Patriots, you wouldn't expect Dolphins players to be good fantasy plays this week, but that's not the case. The Patriots aren't a big playmaking defense, and I expect Chad Henne to play inspired football.

Top receiver Brandon Marshall might have a tough day, as he will get most of the attention from defensive backs, but Bess should be able to get open.

What makes Bess a great PPR play is his role as Henne's safe receiving option. With Henne under so much pressure to not turn the ball over, he will be more likely to look underneath to Bess rather than take chances down field.

Chad Ochocinco, New England Patriots

Ochocinco, a big-play threat for much of his career, will be turned into more of a possession receiver in New England.

Ochocinco isn't as explosive as he once was, and with Wes Welker dealing with some injuries off and on, someone has to fill in some of those underneath routes. That combination will mean an increase in receptions, but a decrease in yardage for the eccentric receiver.

Most of all, Ochocinco will always be a good PPR play because of the team he plays for. Even with an improved running game, the Patriots love to let Tom Brady throw the ball a ton. Even if Ochocinco never leads the team in receptions in a game, he should be good for a few each time out.
