Carrier Classic trophy no Stanley Cup

I'm with Mr. Norlander -- the Carrier Classic probably didn't need an accompanying trophy. It's just one game, you know? And it's not even really about who wins. It's more about giving the armed services members in the audience some token of our civilian appreciation for their countless daily, monthly and yearly sacrifices. That's what makes it cool.

Well, that and the aircraft carrier.

Anyway, there is apparently a trophy for the Carrier Classic, and the Quicken Loans sponsorship site has all the details. Most important is the style -- you can see a photo here -- which manages to be both cool and ugly at the same time. Basically, it looks an aircraft carrier tower, but without the rest of the aircraft carrier. The trophy is made from the same pewter material that is used in most modern ships, and it weighs 85 pounds.

That thing is going to be difficult for the winners of the Nov. 11 game between Michigan State and North Carolina to lift over their heads. But I guess that's what teamwork is for.
