Iranian Referee Attack Video: Watch Soccer Ref Run for Safety After Booking

Who ever said hooliganism in soccer was dead?

Don't tell that to soccer fans in Iran, at least the ones who went after a referee during a second-division match between Chooka Talesh and Shahrdari Dezfool.

The referee came under attack after issuing a second yellow card to one of the players for the home team.

There's no need to speak or understand Farsi to pick up on what exactly transpires from there. Clearly, the rest of the Chooka Talesh players didn't take too kindly to the ref's booking, but rather than simply voice their displeasure, they seemed to think it better to let their fists do the talking.

A strategy for which the ref could've just as well dispensed even more yellow cards for illegal use of the hands.

But, of course, that wasn't about to happen, not while he was getting wailed on.

The ref was able to escape the players besieging him, but wasn't quite so lucky to avoid an even more vicious onslaught from the home team's fans, who charged the field and came after the beleaguered ref in an angry mob.

Unfortunately for the ref, the crowd was able to chase home down several times before he could escape through the chain-link fence surrounding the field.

And with that, you can safely cross Iran off the list of countries David Beckham might choose to play in once his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy has expired.
