After an exhausting Wednesday that saw Joe Paterno leave his post in humiliating fashion, we have since heard a great deal about legacy, allegations and Mike McQueary. The term victims is merely sprinkled lightly among the discourse.
By Thursday, it was clear that the leading stories were the students and their emotional pleas, a humbled Joe Paterno, the humbled means by which he was let go and the disconcerting thought that Mike McQueary still had a job at Penn State.
Then, as if to shake us all to reality, an attorney advising the alleged victims came out with thoughts. I may not agree with all of them. But I don't get to make a call on this when you see the words he had for Penn State and the Board of Trustees.
Attorney Ben Andreozzi came out and stated what may be the first real thoughts on the victims since this ordeal has begun.
The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno. They should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students' reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno.
In all of this, the story has continued to be Joe Paterno. By the evening of Thursday, that had switched to the manner in which he was let go and the fact that Mike McQueary would continue to be a Penn State coach.
Columns and tweets hinted at how Paterno would be received after this. Many continued to offer how the man, once a flawless legend, would be looked upon as the years passed.
For once, we got a semblance of how the victims would feel about all this. It is hard to remember in this sports-centric world that the number of wins Paterno received, or if Penn State will ever retain their honor is meaningless when you consider the true story.
At some point, we need to remember that the victims never wanted any part of this circus. They simply wanted justice.
