LSU vs Alabama: The Single Greatest Factor of Success for Each Team

The moment we have all been waiting for since the college football schedule was released earlier this year. The LSU Tigers will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in less than 48 hours as the game should become an instant classic.

Both teams are undefeated this season and the winner will become the favorite to win the SEC and earn a berth the BCS National Championship.

But how did those teams get to where they are and what has been their greatest factor of success?

We all know about the coaches and the remarkable defense both teams play. But the greatest factor for both teams would have to be their running game.

LSU averages over 180 yards on the ground and much of that success goes to both Spencer Ware and Michael Ford. They both average over four yards a carry and have combined for 13 total touchdowns.

Alabama of course has running back Trent Richardson who has rushed for 17 touchdowns but we can't forget about Eddie Lacy who does average eight yards per touch. This combination is a huge reason in why Alabama averages 230 yards on the ground.

Neither team has a great quarterback as they are both asked to be more of a game manager. The success in the running game has allowed the quarterbacks to play within themselves and not do to much.

If it wasn't for the ground game of both teams, neither squad would be undefeated or in this position to possibly win a National Championship.
