MLB Free Agents 2012: Roy Oswalt to Colorado Rockies Right Move for Everyone

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt taking his talents west to the Colorado Rockies is a good move for everyone.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, conversations between Oswalt's agent and the Rockies' organization have been legitimate.

The Rockies finished 16 games under .500 last season and is in desperate need of some solid pitching. Jhoulys Chacin led the team with 11 wins; unfortunately he needed 31 starts to collect them.

Chacin also led Colorado in strikeouts and earned runs allowed, striking out 150 batters in 2011 while posting a 3.62 ERA.

Although Oswalt struggled mightily in 2011 with the Phillies, he's only 34 and would bring an impressive resume to the mound in Denver.

Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts this past season with Philadelphia, but 2011 marks the first losing record of his career. That ERA was the highest since 2009 with Houston, and the second-highest of his career.

Oswalt went 7-1 in 12 starts with the Phillies at the end of 2010 after he was traded to Philly from the Houston Astros.

Still, Oswalt's struggles are more of an anomaly than the signal of a trend. The pitching ace has 159 wins for his career and a career 3.21 ERA on the mound.

A change of scenery will be good for Roy Oswalt; the pressure of playing with the world-beating Phillies will fade away and the Rockies would be relevant again.
