Kansas City Chiefs running back Jackie Battle has been a trendy fantasy play lately, but owners shouldn't be too excited about him. Battle is one of three running backs you should definitely bench this weekend.
Battle rushed 19 times for 70 yards in Week 8 against the San Diego Chargers. However, while he's seeing the majority of the action out of Kansas City's backfield, there isn't much to be excited about with him. The University of Houston product is a one-speed back who might be the least elusive runner in the league.
In Week 9, Battle and the Chiefs face the 0-7 Miami Dolphins, who actually have a decent run defense. The Dolphins are allowing just 109.9 rushing yards per game. With Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones also sharing time with him, Battle is unlikely to light up the fantasy scoreboard.
If you're on the fence or have a better option sitting around, you should bench Battle. I don't expect him to do much this weekend.
If you own Chris Johnson, you probably wasted a very high pick on him and are now getting almost zero return. I'm sorry, I really am. This weekend, you should probably just send Johnson to your bench. Until we see him show any signs of life, there is no reason to have him in your lineup.
Through seven games this season Johnson has 107 carries for 302 yards and just one touchdown. That's an average of 2.8 yards per carry. That's plain awful, especially for a guy who just signed a six-year, $55.26 million contract during the preseason.
There are plenty of better options than Johnson out there, so stash him on your bench until he turns things around. I know it will be hard to bring yourself to that point, especially if you spent a top pick on him. However, your team will fare better with him on the bench.
Though it hasn't been officially announced, Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden is unlikely to play in Sunday's matchup with the Denver Broncos. McFadden has a foot sprain that has caused him to miss practice so far this week. Yesterday, he was spotted leaving Oakland's training facility on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
Even if he is active on Sunday, it is highly unlikely that McFadden will see more playing time than backup Michael Bush. Bush is a very capable running back and the Raiders are likely to feed him the rock early and often to take advantage of his bruising style against a shaky Broncos front-seven.
Sit McFadden this week. He won't see much action and the Raiders would be smart to keep him inactive anyway.
