The uncle and trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Roger Mayweather, sounded off on Miguel Cotto, saying he lacks the skill to trouble his nephew, and the only thing he’s got going for him is his punch, however, the last part wasn’t meant to be a compliment.
Roger told eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio Program, “He [Cotto] ain’t that skilled. He got his a** whopped by [Manny] Pacquiao, so he ain’t that skilled! The only thing I see Cotto can do is punch. Other than that, he ain’t got s*** for my nephew. The only thing he can do is punch. That’s all he can do, but they all can punch!”
Cotto recently came off an emphatic victory against Antonio Margarito, the first man to put a blemish on his pristine 32-0 record at the time. It was also a redemptive moment for the 31-year-old Puerto Rican, as he felt Margarito had employed underhand tactics to secure the win in their first encounter.
Whether "Junito" has the requisite skill set to end the 42-fight winning streak of the five-division world titlist is still left to be seen, though what he does have in his arsenal, is a puncher's chance, and his 30 KOs in 37 outings is testament to that.
Meanwhile, “Money May” who is scheduled to face off against “Junito” on Cinco de Mayo, will be moving up a division, in an attempt to unseat him as the WBA super welterweight champion.
