Eli Manning threw a career high 25 interceptions this season despite leading a top-ranked offense. But the biggest failure from the Giants season was the fact that they did not make the playoffs.
Yes, it's not fair that the 7-9 Seahawks are playing in the postseason and the 10-9 Giants. Let's face it, that's how the NFL playoffs were set up and if the Giants were the guys in the Seahawks' position, no one would be complaining.
After a season where Eli turned the ball over one too many times and the Giants had a historical meltdown against the Philadelphia Eagles late this season, some expected the ownership to make swift changes to the team.
However, that's not the case. Giants co-owner John Mara is still behind his Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning and his head coach Tom Coughlin.
In an interview with the New York Daily News, Mara gave his quarterback a ringing endorsement.
"Obviously it wasn't his best year," Mara said. "But he had a lot of tipped balls and we were playing with I don't know how many combinations on the offensive line and how many combinations at receiver. So I don't think we need to kill him for all the interceptions.
"He's our guy going forward. He's won before and we think he'll win again."
A survey by the Daily News asked: "Do you think Eli Manning is still a franchise quarterback?"
The most comment response from the masses came in at 50 percent, saying "Yes, he has a Super Bowl ring and ran a top NFL offense this season." While 28 percent said "No, he is too interception-prone," and 22 percent said "We'll see how he does next season."
