Report: Former U-M Quarterback Tate Forcier May Have Threatened Suicide

A police report has recently been obtained by a local media outlet in Grand Rapids, Michigan, regarding an April 22 incident at an apartment allegedly where former U-M quarterback Tate Forcier's girlfriend resides.

The report obtained by WOOD-TV, a Grand Rapids based NBC affiliate, shows that Grand Rapids police officers responded to a 911 call from Forcier's girlfriend, who stated she was concerned Forcier would jump from the bedroom window. Forcier was reportedly hanging from the third floor window of the bedroom.

But now, “no one will say whether this was a suicide attempt,” the WOOD-TV article says.

Police officers were able to convince Forcier to let them into the bedroom. Forcier was not arrested, but was transported to a medical facility.

The police report obtained by local media was reportedly heavily redacted, and the Grand Rapids Police Department would not provide any additional details, citing medical privacy laws.

Forcier, a California native, came from a family of shamelessly self-promoting high school football athletes. His two brothers, Jason and Chris, as well as Tate were all highly touted recruits who didn't quite pan out. Chris began his college career at UCLA before transferring to FCS Furman. Jason started at Michigan before transferring to Stanford, where he only had thirteen pass attempts in his only season for the Cardinal.

Tate was replaced as the starting quarterback at Michigan by Denard Robinson after an inconsistent 2009 season. Forcier was declared academically ineligible prior to last season's Gator Bowl before quitting the team. He intended to transfer to the University of Miami, but later changed his mind, citing “personal reasons,” according to an ESPN article.

It might now be speculated that the April 22 incident in Grand Rapids may have been the genesis for Forcier's decision not to attend Miami—a decision announced on May 13, three weeks after the reported incident in Grand Rapids.
