An athlete misguidedly taking to social media, specifically Twitter, to air out his frustrations about his team, teammates, or the sport he gets paid to play?
Say it ain?t so!
Unfortunately, in what seems to be the growing trend, you can add Dashon Goldson to the list of tweeting athletes that may have been served best to not press send.
The San Francisco 49ers signed safety Madieu Williams last Monday. Goldson, who is still a free agent mind you, was apparently not too happy about the 49ers going out and someone who many consider a player that is capable of replacing him.
Like most smart athletes do, he took to his Twitter account to air out his frustrations with the Niners. These were in response to the apparent questions about the Madieu Williams signing:
To answer sum of the ?'S I'm not sure wht tht move by the 9ers was for, I guess to scare me....well it didn't work. Try again
He then went on to pull his best LeBron James impersonation, stating that he wouldn?t mind taking his talents elsewhere:
I'm definitely keepin an open mind. Meanin I won't mind takin my talents else where to a place where I'm wanted
Finally he stated another team he wouldn?t mind being with if San Francisco doesn?t re-sign him:
Whether thts san fran, dallas or whreva
Obviously this trend of athletes airing out their dirty laundry over Twitter is something that is becoming extremely common, but in my eyes it is extremely unprofessional.
Even though Goldson is a football player, I think what he and many athletes don?t realize is that they are businessmen.
As a free agent he is having some of the biggest business discussions of his career, and a public and extensive forum like Twitter may not be the best place to blow off steam.
Of course a few Tweets later Goldson was back tracking and explaining to people that it was not really his opinion, and that he was just answering questions:
My tweet about them tryna scare me was a question I was asked. I dnt feel tht was the case. I jus said it didn't work if thts wht was meant
Like I said, it?s probably not the best move, but hey what do I know?
You can tweet all of your complaints to me.
