Syracuse Football Breaking News: Safety Phillip Thomas' Suspension Statement

As fans all know by now, starting safety Phillip Thomas has been suspended for one year. After news of this story broke, rumors have been swirling as to the cause of this suspension and the future of the current Orange defensive star.

Phillip Thomas, in an exclusive to Bleacher Report, has declared that "I will be heading to the NFL draft." Furthermore, Thomas is confident in his abilities as a player, saying that "I am friends with DeSean Jackson [WR Philadelphia Eagles], and I already talked to him, so I know I'm going to be fine.

"And if [the NFL doesn't work out] I'm just going to do what I want in life: Help kids ... This door has closed for me, but another one has already opened ... Ida has my back ... She keeps my head straight."

Thomas is planning on going to the D.C. area in the future; whether that includes football or not remains to be seen.

Thomas was a defensive star for the Orange this season, leading the team with 82 total tackles and six interceptions. All season, Thomas intimidated defenses with his ability to make the open field tackle in the secondary as well as in the backfield when lined up in the box.

While there is no confirmed NFL interest in Thomas, there have been sightings of scouts at Syracuse football games, particularly the contests in the Carrier Dome against Rutgers and West Virginia. Thomas played well in and recorded interceptions in both games.

Thomas has overcome adversity in his journey to Syracuse and will end his Orange career with 203 total tackles and eight interceptions.
