The Miami Dolphins need help at quarterback, and the 2012 NFL free agency pool is where they will find it in Matt Flynn.
Flynn has been learning under Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, but he is ready to be a starter; at least in most people’s eyes.
All of the following reasons are why the Dolphins need to get their hands on the young QB prodigy.
The Aaron Rodgers Effect
When a quarterback spends his time waiting on the bench and studying under a stellar starter, there is always a feeling that a player will be ready for his chance to start if he is committed to getting better.
Just like Rodgers was to Brett Favre, Flynn is to Rodgers. Or at least that’s what team hopes.
Flynn has been sitting during his time in LSU and in Green Bay, and each time his number was called, he came up huge. The Dolphins want him to be their Aaron Rodgers.
Big-Game Experience
While Flynn didn’t start much during his five years at LSU, he did manage to start every game his senior year (minus the SEC Championship), including the 2008 BCS National Championship.
With an impressive 174 yards and four TD in the biggest game of his life, Flynn proved that he could be amazing when the time called for it.
After his stellar season at LSU, the Green Bay Packers drafted the young star in the seventh round. Quite the seventh-round steal if you ask me.
His One-Game Explosion
If you fell asleep for the end of the regular season, you missed one of the best single-game performances of the season for any quarterback in the NFL. While it wasn’t ideal, it was Flynn’s chance to shine.
In a 45-41 win over the playoff-bound Detroit Lions, Flynn threw 31 completions for 480 yards and six touchdowns. While the one interception he threw was disheartening, I think it was swept under the rug by the amazing array of passing aptitudes Flynn showed.
While it could just be a case of Kevin Kolb syndrome (tons of yards in first appearance, followed by urges of teams with QB needs to anoint him), Flynn could be the real deal.
