2011 NBA Mock Draft: Comparing Expert Opinions, Indiana Pacers Find a Shooter

2011 NBA Mock Draft Allows Indiana Pacers to Land Pure Shooter

The Indiana Pacers showed a lot of poise and heart during their first round playoff matchup against the top-seeded Chicago Bulls.  But it's clear that they are still missing some pieces in order to make more noise in next year's postseason.

The 2011 NBA draft is always a great place to start.  This draft may be widely viewed as thin on talent but a few of these prospects can still turn into stars given the ideal situation.

Chad Ford notes:

The Pacers' two biggest needs are an athletic guard who can create his own shot off the dribble, and a long, athletic big man who can block shots and rebound.

Although Thompson is more of a pure spot-up shooter, he ultimately has the potential to be a guy that can make things happen with the ball on the ground.

Doug Gottlieb writes:

He might be the only legit NBA 2-guard in the draft. Late bloomer who dominated this season on a team full of suspensions (including his own), Thompson has NBA range off the catch and has learned to create some off the bounce. Played through his rep as being "soft" and earned battle scars because of it. His father, Mychal, was the top pick in 1978, and his bloodlines help him.

As Thompson's game develops with more time, he could turn into the best shooting guard prospect in this class and ultimately become a more lethal and successful shooter than Jimmer Fredette.

My pick: Klay Thompson, SG, Washington State
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 202 lbs.
