EPL Update: Chelsea Names New Assistant Coach, Ends Speculation

Chelsea have announced their Head Opposition scout Michael Emenalo as assistant coach of their first team.

In a statement released by the club on their official website Chelseafc.com, the club announced their new assistant coach. The appointment ends speculation regarding a new assistant coach after Ray Wilkins was unceremoniously sacked in the previous week. Chelsea greats Gianfranco Zola and Marcel Desailly were been considered probable candidate's for the role of second-in-charge to Carlo Ancelotti.

Michael Emenalo was a former Nigerian footballer who joined the club in 2007 and has been an important part of first team management since then. He played for clubs in his home country, USA, and Spain before joining Chelsea. He was also part of the Nigeria squad that featured in the 1994 World Cup, capping 14 times for his country.

Emenalo will have big boots to fill when he starts his job as Ancelotti's deputy. The appointment also shows Chelsea's attempts at reducing their wages in an attempt to becoming self-sufficient.

Emenalo will continue his scouting work as well as assisting Head coach Carlo Ancelotti as he completes his transition. He needs to upgrade his qualifications in the processin order to take over a more important and influential role in the first team.

Chelsea fans will hope that he is able and competent as his predecessor Wilkins.
