The Atlanta Braves are close to signing second baseman Dan Uggla to a long-term extension, according to multiple sources, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Uggla, who came over to Atlanta via trade in November, is expected to make close to $11 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility in 2011. But the Braves have been outspoken since his arrival that they would like to pursue a contract extension.
Also amiable to discussing a long-term deal, Uggla is on record saying that he would not seek top-dollar figures from the Braves -- just a fair number.
From a few reports, that "fair number" may look like $60 million for a five-year extension.
