2011 NBA Draft Results: Trey Thompkins Goes No. 37 to the Los Angeles Clippers
Trey Thompkins was labeled the preseason favorite for SEC Player of the Year and a potential All-American going into his last season in Athens, but injuries and ineffectiveness kept him from achieving each of those honors.
Thompkins is a very skilled power forward capable of dribbling up the floor and breaking a full-court press, launching up a three-ball or showing off a dazzling display of post moves down low, but he doesn’t have the mental game necessary to be a star.
A lot of times, Thompkins would mentally check out of games during crucial moments and he never displayed a killer mentality. That red flag was raised even higher when his 15.5 percent body fat was tops at the NBA Draft Combine.
Once a potential top-10 pick, Thompkins could prove to be a steal here if he can make his mental game catch up with the physical game.
He's going to have a great young mentor for the mental game in Blake Griffin.
