The 2011 NBA Draft is only a couple days away and I know NBA fans are just chomping at the bit to see who their team is going to draft. To me, the NFL Draft as well as the NBA Draft, is very similar to Christmas Day. Everyone knows their team will get a present, but which present (or in this case, who) is the true question.
Fans for the rest of summer will be debating what their team needs to do in order to make them a championship contender. It is a terrific time to be a basketball fan, everyone is allowed to be the general manager from their respective teams. Mock drafts are an integral part of this time of the year, which is why I have taken it upon myself to make one more, specifically for the lottery picks.
I had made one a few weeks ago, which was a cause for much debate to say the least, but after personal workouts and GM's expressing sentiments toward certain players, I have made a few tweaks to my top 14. Let the debate continue.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers- Kyrie Irving
Even though there was some speculation of him not being the No. 1, it seems at the end of the day Cleveland nabs Irving.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves- Derrick Williams
After what was reported as a failed attempt by the T'Wolves to trade the No. 2 overall pick to the Lakers for Bynum, looks like Williams is heading to the cold winters of Minnesota. However, no deal is ever dead.
3. Utah Jazz- Brandon Knight
The Jazz fill a big need with this talented prospect, Knight should be an instant impact and get the people of Utah on their feet once more.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers- Enes Kanter
Everything works out the way Cleveland wanted, getting a point guard and with this pick getting the 6'11" PF/C. Though they are not exactly LeBron James, the city of Cleveland do have something to get excited about.
5. Toronto Raptors- Kemba Walker
A lot of debate here at this pick, many have Leonard, but I think Walker is an easy pick here. Walker, along with Calderon in the back court can make for a nice tandem at point.
6. Washington Wizards- Jan Vesely
The Wizards help out John Wall, last years first overall pick, with Jan Vesely. The power forward from the Czech Republic should make for a nice one-two punch in Washington.
7. Sacramento Kings- Kawhi Leonard
Tyreke Evans gets a nice outlet man on the wind with the talents and skills of the So Cal native, Kawhi Leonard. A great athlete who likes to live on the perimeter has the ability to post up on defenders.
8. Detroit Pistons- Tristan Thompson
Tristan Thompson is a beast on the boards and will definitely help a team that struggles on the defensive side of the ball. He needs to work on his offensive game, but a solid pick here for Detroit.
9. Charlotte Bobcats- Alec Burks
Michael Jordan and the Bobcats gets quite an athlete here out of Alec Burks. Now Even though I did not put him on my top ten athletes in the draft, he was an honorable mention. Charlotte kind of need a lot of help, but he is a solid start.
10. Milwaukee Bucks- Marcus Morris
Marcus Morris is a wonderful pick here, a terrific shooter who has explosive leaping ability and a motor. If he can get a little stronger the Bucks do not look so bad with Bogut, Jennings, and Redd.
11. Golden State Warriors- Jonas Valanciunas
New Head Coach Mark Jackson gets a big Lithuanian center who can play solid defense, and grab boards. Combine him with the back court of Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry. Look out Nor Cal.
12. Utah Jazz- Biyombo Bismack
The Jazz continue their promising draft with the big man from the Congo, Biyombo Bismack. Bismack's stock has been rising over the last couple weeks and his athleticism fits a nice mold in Utah.
13. Phoenix Suns- Jimmer Fredette
Jimmer Fredette, one of the most talked about prospects of the draft, gets to learn from one of the best passing point guards in NBA history, Steve Nash. We all know Jimmer can shoot, but he will need to work on his defense and passing. Phoenix is his answer to be a solid all around player.
14. Houston Rockets- Klay Thompson
The Rockets get one of the best shooters in the NBA Draft. Thompson has great size, will play more like a 2-guard, he understands how to create space for himself and others for good looks.
Well NBA Fanatics, take it as you please, but remember it is near impossible to guess a Draft, but that is half the fun of the Draft.
