Looking to regain relevance in the heavyweight division, Fedor Emelianenko picked up his second-straight victory Saturday morning at Dream: Fight for Japan.
Showing much more patience than usual, Emelianenko plodded forward and put Satoshi Ishii away with a straight right hand. The win marked Emelianenko eighth knockout in a 33-win career that once saw the Russian being considered the best fighter in the history of the sport.
After Emelianenko suffered a third-straight loss earlier this year, most began to recognize Anderson Silva as the best mixed martial artist of all time. Unwilling to go out on such a bad note, Emelianenko opted to continue competing and defeated Jeff Monson in November.
Emelianenko may never reclaim his spot atop the heavyweight division, but a few more wins may draw the interest of the UFC. The former Pride champion has never competed inside the Octagon, and it would be a shame if one of the sport's all-time greats went his entire career without fighting in the sport's premier organization.
