Lakers vs Bulls: Strong Bench Proves Dwight Howard Isn't a Need for Chicago

The Chicago Bulls' talented bench is so important to the team's success that it would be foolish for them to break up their great depth to acquire superstar center Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic via trade.

The Bulls were a reliable shooting guard away from getting to the NBA Finals last season, and after acquiring former Detroit Pistons star Rip Hamilton in free agency this offseason, Chicago now has a roster capable of getting to the championship level.

Chicago has depth at each position on the bench, which is a luxury few teams have and one that isn't worth destroying for a superstar, even one as talented as Howard.

Omer Asik gives the team depth at center, Taj Gibson adds athleticism at power forward, Kyle Korver adds exceptional outside shooting at small forward, Ronnie Brewer adds skill at shooting guard and C.J. Watson gives the Bulls a reliable backup point guard.

The Bulls can survive injuries to key players because of their depth, but if they acquire Howard and lose that talent then injuries could have a devastating effect on their chances.

Not only do these players give the team tremendous depth and versatility, but none of them are a liability defensively.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau has made the Bulls a fabulous defensive team that prides itself on playing defense first and allowing that to win them games against elite teams.

The Bulls are set up well for the future, and it would be unwise to break up their team and surrender draft picks to acquire Howard from Orlando.

With reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose signing a new five-year contract recently, the team has a fantastic core of young talent including center Joakim Noah and forward Luol Deng that gives them a chance to win every single night.

Chicago is a young team that is learning to win together and is building good team chemistry. They don't need Howard to beat the Miami Heat and other Eastern Conference contenders in the playoffs, and destroying their depth to acquire the Magic star would be stupid.

The Bulls must resist the temptation to join the Howard sweepstakes, and instead focus on building their young roster into a team that can win multiple championships.
