Electrifying Guard is Too One-Dimensional For the NBA
Alec Burks flew under the radar for most of the college basketball season, and yet some experts have him projected as a lottery pick. He is a great shooter who averaged 20.5 points per game in his sophomore season, but that was primarily on inside scoring. He is 6'6" and will be expected to play shooting guard in the pros, and he just isn't talented enough to reach the level required of someone at that position.
Burks' biggest flaw is his three-point shooting. Last year, he only shot 29 percent from downtown and his college average wasn't much better at 32. He's like a poor man's Michael Redd, minus the decent three-point shooting. He'll be alright on offense, but his lack of athleticism will only hurt him.
That isn't to say that Burks won't ultimately be able to succeed on the NBA level. If he builds some muscle, works on his outside shot and improves his defense, he could become a solid contributor. Yet, until he's drafted, I have to label him as a bust.
