2011 NBA Mock Draft: Is Brandon Knight Better Suited to Become NBA PG or SG?

2011 NBA Mock Draft Previews Kentucky Star Brandon Knight's Potential as an NBA Guard

Brandon Knight had an up and down season at Kentucky last season, but showcased his potential in games against West Virginia, Ohio State, and North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.

After only averaging four assists per game in his senior season in high school, Knight continued to struggle with his assist total at Kentucky.  Knight only accumulated 4.2 assists per game in his freshman season, leaving many scouts and analysts wondering if he projects as a true NBA point guard.

On top of Knight's mediocre assist total, he had a terrible turnover percentage.  Knight averaged only one less turnover per game than he did assist during his freshman season.

Talent-wise he has as much talent, if not more than Duke PG Kyrie Irving.  However, Irving has a very high Basketball IQ, while Knight struggles in that part of his game.

With Knight's turnover troubles very worrisome for many teams considering Knight as a point guard, there is a possibility he could spend a lot of time at the two guard while he develops.

With Knight projected as the No. 3 overall pick in many mock drafts, he will be expected to contribute immediately.  The Jazz could use some help at the two guard, so Knight makes sense for them.  While they would like to see him eventually replace Devin Harris as the starting point guard, he could develop as his backup, while also serving time at shooting guard.

Knight excels at getting to the basket and scoring, something the Jazz need more of since trading away Deron Williams.  He should be able to provide instant offense for them, while also providing excellent versatility on the defensive side of the ball.

While it remains to be seen which position Knight will thrive in at the NBA level, look for him to see a lot of time at both positions early in his career.
