Raffi Torres Scores Game 1 Winner, How Will Bruins Respond?

Raffi Torres Pushes Canucks Past Bruins in Stunning Fashion.

Game one of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals will be remembered as a duel between Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and Canucks netminder Roberto Luongo.

Thomas was the one to finally crack after a scoreless 59 minutes. Jannik Hansen made a crisp, beautiful pass along the crease and found teammate Raffi Torres for an easy redirection goal with 18.5 seconds remaining.

Torres was humble about the goal, telling the Vancouver Sun,

"Obviously, Kes made a heads-up play and I just had to get open. Janny made a great play to get it over and I was fortunate enough to get it into the back of the net."

The third line wingers of the Canucks were the unlikely heroes on the ice that night. They accomplished what the superstar Sedin twins and the formidable power play unit who had six opportunities couldn't by getting past Tim Thomas.

The Bruins need to again go back to their special teams play and make adjustments in order to dig themselves out of the hole they have created. Boston failed to convert on their six attempts, and is scoring a paltry 7.5% of their attempts.

The Bruins short-handed defense also needs to continue to play at an outstanding level, as Vancouver?s power play unit is converting over 25% of their opportunities but were held scoreless on Wednesday.

Game 2 is Saturday at 8:00PM EST in Vancouver.
