Stanley Cup: Why Game 7 Failed to Live Up to the Hype

Stanley Cup Final Went the Distance, But It Failed To Live Up To the Hype

When you get down to a Game 7 in any sport, you want an all-out war for the richest prize in the game.

Last night, we got anything but.

In Vancouver, the Boston Bruins came out and sucked the life right out of the building, and didn't let up. Boston won the contest 3-0, taking the Stanley Cup back east, and it was a bland conclusion to what had been a compelling series.

After the Canucks went down 1-0, it seemed like the air went out of the sails of the Western Conference Champions. The third goal, shorthanded, on a breakaway, was the icing on the cake, the ultimate insult to a team that saw a 2-0 series lead slip away.

It was nothing like the Game 7 between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins, where the game went down to the wire, with the final seconds jampacked with action.

Last night was anti-climatic, a continuation of Boston's dominance on its home ice. The Canucks are a fragile team, and it showed on the ice last night. They didn't believe they had the ability to come back from a deficit and everything unraveled from there.

I wanted more from last night's game. I wanted drama, I wanted intensity, and I wanted something we'd remember forever.

We got none of that last night, and it's a shame, especially after the type of series and postseason we had. By the time Boston went up on the scoreboard, it seemed like we were just counting down until the inevitable.

Last night was a giant letdown, especially for the people in Vancouver.
